| The relation of the ear and language
is undeniable. Yet
it was Dr. Tomatis who discovered a simple, basic fact, just decades
ago. It's known as The Tomatis Effect. The voice
reproduces only what the ear hears. The Tomatis Effect is
held in high regard in
relation to our development of sound stimulation programs. While
we strive to create programs that help develop processing of the full
sound
spectrum, the TLP Kit has a very significant emphasis on the
frequencies
fundamental to the reception and production of spoken language.
The
Speech and Language Integration CD takes this deeper by focusing on
the
frequency zone from 750 - 4000 Hz. This zone covers the
language
areas for many languages, especially North American English and Latin
American
Spanish. Frequencies from 750-4000 Hz |
are in the zone where a person has a sense of melody in
music. These
frequencies affect receptive and expressive language, communication, as
well as attention, memory, and control of the singing and speaking voice.
As
previously stated this series is focusing on the frequencies in the
spectrum from 750 - 4000 Hz. This is known as the
Language Zone, and involves frequencies related to receptive language,
melody, memory, pitch control, and voice modulation and control.
In addition
to the frequency emphasis, the music and instrumentation has been
selected for this CD with qualities that compliment this portion of the
sound spectrum. The string section, flute and clarinet sing in
this range of frequencies
with a feeling of joy.
|
| To
achieve the increased stimulation
to The Language Zone, full spectrum sound is used throughout each
entire, fifteen-minute segment. The "A" section has full spectrum
sound gradually blending to an emphasis of frequencies between 750 -
4,000 Hz, raising the brain's awareness and responsiveness to these
frequencies. The "B" Section remains full
spectrum sound and the Language Zone of 750 - 4,000 Hz is the gated
track.
The gating draws particular emphasis and strength to this area with a
resulting lightness that feels very good to listen to. Finally,
the "C" section is the mirror image of "A", in which the blending of
the filtered track into the full spectrum track is gradually removed
for the last two minutes of full spectrum sound. |
| Guidelines for Use
TLP
Extension - Speech and Language Integration CD is appropriate for
children and adults. Each fifteen-minute segment has a different
quality to the music. Listeners should practice active
listening with this series, but may also hum, sing, or explore
their voice during their listening sessions.
This
series may be appropriate for enhancing receptive and expressive
language,
sense of melody, pitch discrimination, fluency, voice modulation and
control. It may be used during reading activities, quiet or
aloud at a low volume. Many find this series very helpful to
listen to prior to speaking on the phone for long periods of time or before
a public speaking engagement or presentation. It may also be
used in connection with vocal exercises and may have some
benefit with second language development. This is a tremendous
tool for voice coaches, reading and learning specialists, speech and
language pathologists and those working with communication difficulties.
It also proves helpful with attention and concentration.
Listening Schedules
This
CD may be used before regular TLP schedules, during and after.
